Learn to cast metal! This 6 week class meets Saturdays from 10-2 for 6 weeks.
Casting is the best way to create dimensional metal objects. Techniques will be taught for several methods including cuttle bone, open face and sand casting. A lost wax project will be the final cast.
Come learn this ancient and empowering discipline in its many facets. Students will be guided through several projects, learn to create molds & models, and will pour molten metals to cast durable small scale charms & jewelry elements. OGMS member Shawn Pixley will share his love of casting in this fun and rewarding class.
Techniques featured: Cuttle bone casting, Sand casting, Open face casting and Lost wax casting methods. Various metals will be used to allow the student to experience the different properties of materials. A lost wax model will be worked on during multiple class sessions, and lost wax technique will be the final project cast. Safety considerations and equipment maintainence will be also be discussed.
Cancellation policy No refunds for cancellations. If registrant must cancel due to medical emergency or natural disaster conditions. (fire, flooding etc), credit will be extended to the next available class session. Please check your calender for availability before reserving class space. We will not provide make-up classes for lack of childcare or scheduling conflicts.
